Wedding Wednesday: Getting married on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day

NYEHappy New Year! While some shared a kiss ringing in the new year, some were sharing a kiss for the first time as husband and wife.

Some people choose holidays to get married because it’s their favorite time of year, it’s an easy date to remember or because it provides a great wedding theme.  For those planning new year nuptials, there are a few pros and cons to consider.

A New Year’s wedding can have a really fun theme that focuses on the couple beginning their first year of marriage together. If the ceremony is on New Year’s Eve, the reception can be a big bash ringing in the new year at midnight. Some might even want to exchange vows and kiss at the stroke of midnight. They’ll always ring in the new year and celebrate their anniversary at the same time.

Decorations could include streamers and confetti, and fireworks would be a nice touch at an outdoor nighttime reception or ceremony.

A holiday wedding can also be a good idea if you have many people who need to travel to the wedding. It will often give them a little extra travel time, especially when the holiday falls on a Monday or Friday.

There can be a few obstacles, however, if you choose a holiday for your wedding.  You may have trouble getting the venue you want. It could already be booked for a New Year’s Eve party. It could also be hard to schedule the band you want.

If you plan to get married the last day of 2014 or the first day of 2015, it’s already a good time to start planning.
