Now, more than 216 million Americans, or 70 percent of the country, live in a state with marriage equality, according to the Human Rights Coalition.

County clerks in Florida began issuing licenses to same-sex couples on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the behest of U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle of Tallahassee.
