Create a budget

This might seem like an obvious thing to do, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t create a budget… or don’t stick to one. Decide what you can afford and stay disciplined in sticking to your budget. Determine all the hidden costs and extras up front so there are no surprise fees.

Location

Location is key for a beautiful wedding and also a considerable cost. Think if you have any friends with an awesome backyard you could borrow or find a scenic location you could set up for a wedding. Use the resources around you to find an amazing venue for almost nothing.

DIY

Pinterest it. Brides can DIY in this category and eliminate many costs. All the little things—invitations, save-the-dates, centerpieces, decorations, wedding favors—may not seem like significant costs, but they add up quickly. Save on decorations and make masterpieces out of inexpensive dollar store items. Get creative and no one will ever know where you got them!

Cut the guest list

A small wedding with family and close friends can make for a more intimate and special day. It’s important to have your loved ones present, but eliminating people who wouldn’t make or break your wedding will save you some big bucks. According to theknot.com, the average spending per guest is $204. Crossing off some guests from the list will lower your wedding cost significantly.

Hire a friend

Music and photography can also be quite pricey. Forget an elaborate band or DJ booth, set up your iTunes playlist on good speakers, and pay a friend to be your DJ. Get a friend to be your photographer or hire a reputable one from Craigslist. Also, ask your guests to share their photos on Eversnap or Instagram and you get the advantage of having photos from many different sources.
